Anterior total hip replacement

Anterior Hip Replacement, also known as Anterior MIS Hip Replacement (Arthroplasty), is an operation designed for the treatment for advanced arthritis of the hip.

It is also done for other hip conditions such as Avascular Necrosis and Hip fractures. The operation is minimally invasive and does not involve any cutting of the muscles around the hip. Special instrumentation is used to efficiently and securely place metal, ceramic and plastic components to replace the worn out hip. Important nerves and blood vessels are preserved by the nature of this minimally invasive approach. Blood loss is reduced and recovery is rapid with reduced pain. Postoperative hip precautions are minimized and the recovery can proceed with very few restrictions.

In addition to the minimally invasive anterior approach, computer technology is incorporated during the procedure to ensure accurate placement of the implants. This also enables close matching of leg length to the opposite side. The risk of dislocation after an Anterior MIS Hip Replacement is very low due accurate implant placement and minimally invasive approach. This procedure can also be done on an outpatient basis thereby avoiding hospital admission and reducing the infection rate.

At ARC Orthopedic Group, we have extensive experience of over 2000 hip replacements performed over the past 10 years, of which 1000 were Anterior MIS Hip Replacements.

Partial knee replacement

Partial knee replacement is also known as unicondylar knee replacement or arthroplasty.
This is an operation designed to address knee arthritis that is limited to one compartment of the knee. Each of the three knee compartments, medial, lateral and patellofemoral, can develop arthritis that is predominant in once side of the knee.
The pain can also be limited to one side of the knee. The partial knee replacement places metal and plastic components to relieve pain, improve alignment and restore function.
Partial knee replacement preserves all the ligaments of the knee and is minimally invasive. This leads to a rapid return to activity and a more normal feel of the knee replacement compared to a total knee replacement. Since all patients with knee arthritis are not candidates for a partial knee replacement, a consultation with your orthopedic surgeon is important for a discussion of all treatment options.
At ARC Orthopedic Group, we offer partial knee replacement done on an outpatient basis with no need for hospital admission.

Total knee replacement

At ARC Orthopedic Group, we have extensive experience with minimally invasive total knee replacement, custom knee replacement and patient specific instrumentation.
Total knee replacement (knee arthroplasty) is an operation used for the treatment of advanced arthritis of the knee. It is generally recommended after other treatment methods such as physical therapy, medications, injections and weight loss have failed to relieve the pain. Recent advances in surgical techniques and implant materials have resulted in a less painful recovery and faster return to function after a total knee replacement.
The traditional approach to knee replacement uses a 6-8 inch incision with cutting of the quadriceps tendon to access the joint. Minimally invasive total knee replacement uses a 3-4 inch incision with sparing of the quadriceps muscle. The metal and plastic implants are then placed with precision with the goal of providing improved alignment, relief of pain and return to daily activities. The knee replacement is expected to last a long time, approximately 20 years. The hospital stay is usually 1-2 days followed by physical therapy for 6-8 weeks.
In addition to using minimally invasive knee replacement, the use of technology can help with accurate sizing and alignment of the knee. Patient specific instrumentation and custom knee replacement is also available for most patients. Minimally invasive and custom approaches are not applicable to all patients and a thorough discussion with your surgeon is required to choose the appropriate technique and implant that is right for you.

Minimally Invasive total shoulder replacement

At ARC Orthopedic Group, we offer both total shoulder replacement and reverse total shoulder replacement.
Total shoulder replacement or shoulder arthroplasty is an operation designed to treat arthritic or traumatic conditions of the shoulder joint. The worn out or damaged ball and socket joint is replaced with metal and plastic components to relieve pain and restore function. The success of this procedure depends on accurate placement of the implants and extensive physical therapy after the operation.
One variation of the total shoulder replacement is a Reverse Shoulder Replacement. This procedure is used when the rotator cuff is irreparable and there is severe pain with inability to reach overhead. The reverse prosthesis changes the mechanics of the shoulder to allow range of motion despite large and massive tears of the rotator cuff.
